Brazil plans to increase grain production

In 8 years, Brazil plans to produce about 390 million tons of grain. This is approximately 13% more than in 2022.

Currently, Brazilian farmers have plans to increase grain production in the country by 2032. It is expected that throughout this period it will grow by approximately 1.3% per year.

The purpose of this increase is to ensure the country’s food security.

According to forecasts, by 2032, food consumption in the world will increase significantly, as the global population is expected to grow from 7.9 billion to 8.6 billion.

In addition, the increase in this consumption will be an opportunity for large agricultural producers, such as Brazil, to increase their income through food exports.

How are you planning to increase production?

One of the ways for this is intensive development, that is, increasing the yield per hectare. However, experts note that the cost of production is currently rising.

The second way is the development of new territories. Experts believe that today in Brazil, about 33% of all land is used for agricultural purposes, and another 58% is occupied by natural vegetation.

There are also a lot of pastures in the country where large and small livestock are grazed.

However, about half of the pastures are currently in very poor condition: littered, pest-ridden, and not maintained with fertilizers.

Experts see this as a good opportunity for farming. Some pastures have been used for this purpose for many decades, which has largely contributed to their degradation.

By sowing such lands with other crops and applying fertilizers, it is possible to ensure high-quality crop rotation, which will help restore the fertility of these lands.

At the moment, Brazil is one of the largest agricultural producers among countries.

Over the past 40 years, its agricultural production has increased by 600%, although the sown area has only been doubled. This means that the breakthrough was mainly made by increasing yields.

In the coming years, Brazil plans to increase the area under cultivation from 77 million hectares to 92 million.

This should help both further increase production and optimize the country’s land bank.

In parallel, it is planned to increase meat production from 29 million tons per year to 36 million. It is emphasized that such plans should be implemented before 2033.
